Dr. Byambakhuu Ishgaldan holds a PhD in Geo-environmental Science from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, and has 20 years of experience as a local team leader and senior environmental and social specialist, with expertise in ESIA, ESMPs, ESMFs, DEIA, policy-coherence assessment and environmental safeguards. He has served as a consultant and team leader for MCC, the World Bank, IFC, ADB, UNDP and other international development organisations on major infrastructure, urban development, climate, biodiversity and natural-resource management assignments.
As a member of the Working Group on amendments to Mongolia’s EIA Law, he has contributed to national guidelines for SIA, DEIA, SEA, CIA and EBA and, since 2012, has led capacity-building programmes for EIA professionals, government officials and other stakeholders.
